Male Breasts, Nipple Correction

Gynecomastia in men is a change in the breast characterized by enlargement of the mammary gland and fatty tissue, causing the breast to resemble a female breast. The enlargement is usually bilateral but can also be asymmetrical. In adolescents or during puberty, gynecomastia is not a pathological condition. It typically resolves spontaneously and does not require treatment. In adults, the cause of gynecomastia is often unclear.

Certain patient groups may develop gynecomastia as a result of taking hormones (anabolic steroids). Other causes may include impaired liver function or the use of female hormones (estrogen-containing medications). In very rare cases, a tumor (growth), which may be malignant, can also cause gynecomastia. In overweight patients, the cause is often that excessive amounts of female hormones (estrogens) are produced in fat cells, leading to the development of gynecomastia. For this reason, weight loss should be attempted before undergoing such surgery.

It is advisable to have your hormone levels checked and undergo an examination by a urologist before such a procedure. In cases of extensive findings or medical indication, health insurance companies will cover the costs of such a procedure following a medical evaluation.Gynecomastia in men is a change in the breast characterized by enlargement of the mammary gland and fatty tissue, causing the breast to resemble a female breast. Gynecomastia Treatment - The Surgical Procedure

The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, or under general anesthesia if desired. During the procedure, either the glandular tissue located behind the nipple is removed through an incision around the nipple, or the glandular tissue is removed solely by suction. In many cases, a combination of both approaches is necessary.

After injecting a so-called tumescent solution (a solution designed to loosen the fatty tissue, containing a local anesthetic and a medication that constricts blood vessels), the surrounding fatty tissue and glandular tissue are suctioned out (liposuction). Next, the glandular tissue located behind the nipple and beyond is removed through an incision around the areola from the 3 o’clock to the 9 o’clock position. The resulting scar around the areola between 3 and 9 o’clock (clockwise) is barely visible. After the surgical procedure, it is necessary to wear a custom-made compression vest for 6 weeks. The sutures can usually be removed after 8 to 10 days. Following this, scar treatment with a silicone gel is recommended for 12 weeks.

Liposuction

Postoperative pain is similar to mild to moderate muscle soreness and can be managed with pain medication provided by us.

Nipple correction can be performed to alter the size and shape of the nipple. These procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia.
